Abstract: India depends on Indonesia for most of its coal import requirement. Recently, there were NEWS items that Indonesia plans to ban low grade coal by 2013. It also projected flat 25% export tax in the near term. This will definitely hit the competitiveness of the Indonesian coal for Indian power plants. The project concentrated on studying the effect on export tax to Indian power plants. The second part of the project was to study the viability of Indonesian economy to impose such a ban or tax on its coal resources.
