Abstract: The main reason for us to be motivated for this project is that this is not just an academic project. It is aproject which can have a three-fold impact on our community:Economic Impact: As a first incentive, the more electricity we save, the less we have to buy. The projectwill help to reduce the electricity bill of IIM Bangalore campus. The funds thus saved can be utilized forother productive purposes.Social Impact: Forty per cent of our country does not get electricity at all. About six lakh villages do nothave any network to receive electricity. Thus, being an energy deficient country, the importance ofenergy management and conservation is even more in the Indian perspective. Electricity saved is asgood as electricity produced. It is our social responsibility to save these resources so that needy onescan get it.Environmental Impact: Losses occur throughout the entire production process, from the initialproduction stage to the generation and transmission of electricity. Any reduction in electricityconsumption in turn implies a far greater savings of natural resources like coal etc. Moreover, efficientelectricity usage will in turn reduce the carbon footprint of our campus. One of the ways to help our planet is to cut back and watch the amount of electricity we use daily hereat IIM Bangalore. The students and staff should start making the campus more energy efficient andsustainable. We believe that with education, awareness, and action, we can bring about this change. We, as a premiere institute of India, are looked upon by various segments of society. We should set anexample for everyone to conserve and use electricity efficiently.
